Pipe Chanter Case
An African Blackwood pipe chanter is a very expensive item. And if you've ever snapped one you'll know how delicate they are. Here is a cheap but effective way to protect it.

Take a 16'' length of 2'' diameter plastic drainpipe and cut out the pattern shown below. The design is based on that of a bayonet-type electric light socket. Seal off the other end and pad it with about 2.5" inches of foam rubber to make it spring-loaded. The precise dimensions for the cut-out section will depend upon the distance from the bottom of your chanter to the securing screw on your chanter cap.

Use 12'' of expanded polystyrene pipe lagging to prevent the chanter moving about laterally inside the case.
